While it was not officially announced until late in the year, Red Dead Redemption 2 had been one of the most anticipated PC titles in a long time. Their recommended settings are very similar to what I've recommended, but a little easier on the GPU. This setting controls the quality of volumetrics (fog, mist, etc) that are near the player. Reflection MSAA: lets combine the two most intense frame killers in Red Dead Redemption for PC and add a third option! It is most noticeable on dirt roads and other surfaces not covered in vegetation. Was planning on playing it with the 3080 but yeah. It doesnt eat a whole lot of frames (one to two), and since its an on/off toggle it doesnt hurt to leave this on. Grass Level of Detail: far more intense than Geometry, with more pips in the scale to select, this setting can murder frames at higher positions (especially with the grass shadows you get at 75% and higher). There is quite a lot of grass in RDR2. I'm pretty sure no solution exists, as I spent a very good deal of time looking for one. Red Dead Redemption 2 can be made to look great and perform smoothly with a few settings adjustments. Parallax Occlusion Mapping: this only costs a few frames between Low and Ultra, so maxed out wont hurt too hard. tl;dr: Trees and some other textures really blurry/pixelated, nothing seems to fix it. 75% seems to work well with grass shadows set to Medium if you want the game to maintain a sharp look, minimize pop-in, and only cost a few frames. Far Volumetric Resolution: this is damn near a freebie, and can be safely set to High or Ultra. Before diving headfirst into the ocean of graphics settings, check the official system requirements for the game to see how your PC stacks up. The "grass level of detail" setting controls how far away the grass is rendered from the player. The higher the setting, the farther away the textures will appear to be full resolution. The main form of AA that you need to use in RDR2 is TAA because the game was developed and tested with it always present. When this happens, it's better if the water physics quality isn't maxed out, because doing so will cause a significant drop in performance even on a high-end PC. The effect is not game-breaking and I'm frankly quite impressed with the graphics all the same. It can make ruts in a dirt road have shadows, give brick textures the appearance of being individual 3D blocks, and more. Lighting Quality: this has less impact than you think, though it varies depending on the time of day. At these settings, you will notice some slight banding or dithering in the light, but it will run 3-4% faster than using Ultra, which offers the best light simulation and eliminates the artifacts seen in the console versions.
